Interviews and exciting news – first published 16 June 2014

In June 2014  excitement came in the form of an email. A journalist wanted to interview me for a rather prestigious magazine. It would be a feature on people who have dragged themselves off the couch and taken up walking. Obviously I fit the bill but I wasn’t sure if it would be as lovely and surprising as East Park on the June Walk, or as disappointing as the Enchanted Park. I’d been down that road before twice. The first time the journalist used my words rather than her own but chopped and cut so much the meaning was lost and I ended up feeling cheated. Interviews and butterflies – first published 12 March 2014

Interviews and post interview disappointment had been a regular feature of early 2014. So much so, that I’d become quite blasé about them. In early March I got a call asking me to an interview for a customer service job. To be honest, I didn’t even remember applying for it but it was within easy walking distance and I figured I probably wouldn’t get the job anyway so I went along. What goes up must come down, then go up again – first published 4 March 2014

Early 2014 seemed to be mostly about interviews. So many I look back now and can hardly remember them all. There was one I really liked the sound of in a research unit at the hospital as PA to several professors working on cancer research. At least it was only a short interview. No tests, tricks or hoops to jump through. After that there was a tour of the office so I got to meet the people I would be working with. They seemed a cheery bunch which was nice. The only real fly in the ointment, if I did get the job, was the travelling. The hospital is surprisingly difficult to get to. I was even thinking about buying a bike if I got it. Wet, wet, wet and wondering…? – first published 18 February 2014

Mid February 2014 and the weather was supposed to be taking a turn for the better so I was more than a little disappointed to wake to more rain. It might not have mattered quite as much if I didn’t have an appointment in town with some paperwork for a job interview and a terrible loathing of paying for buses to places I could easily walk. In the end the whole thing turned into a very frustrating and slightly worrying event that left me feeling as if I’d been scammed. Fallen trees and interview techniques – first published 13 february 2014

Some of my random and slightly desperate applying for jobs had resulted in a job interview back in February 2014. It was with a large financial institution in the city centre. Anyone who knows me will tell you finance and figures isn’t really my thing. I’m pretty sure I only applied to make up the numbers on my job search form but still, a job was a job. A surreal experience and an interview – First published 5 December 2013

Red sky in the morning, shepherds warning, or so they say, and the morning sky on 5 December 2013 certainly had more than a hint or red about it. As I ate my granola I watched it change from hint of pink to deep rose with a touch of purple in the clouds. The wether news was not good, storms and high winds were on the way and maybe a flood or two. Not quite what I’d hoped for on the day of my interview but those are the breaks I guess. Another interview, more boxes and a traffic jam – first published 25 November 2013

The end of November 2013 seemed to be all about job hunting, interviews, CV workshops and, of course, the marketing boxes that were causing quite a bit of consternation in our office. Along with all that there was also a curious traffic jam that lasted almost all day and brought the city of Southampton to a grinding halt. Disappointment, sadness and more good news – first published 22 November 2013

November 2013 was drawing to a close along with my job. The were good days and bad days, hopes raised and dashed. At times it seemed cruel that we had to be there, slowly dismantling our world and our work. At other times we savoured every moment there was left. Bad dreams, good news and boxes – first published 21 november 2013

In late 2013, the business of slowly dismantling our office continued and there was more than a little drama over some marketing boxes. For once I wasn’t the on carting them about but it wasn’t for lack of trying on the part of the new Marketing Manager.  Through it all I kept dreaming about houses and desperately trying to find things to make me smile.
