Beyond Graffiti update

Southampton parkrun

A little bird (Kim) had told me there was some new graffiti to be seen in the Beyond Graffiti Tunnel, so for the second parkrun of April, I decided on a change of scene for my morning constitutional. As the park runners began to gather on the flats, I headed past the Hawthorns (still sadly closed), towards the Avenue. Swapping the peace and tranquility of the Old Cemetery for the hustle and bustle of the road didn’t seem like much of a plan at first. Especially when I had to wait to cross. Once on the other side though, I made for Lovers Walk, the relatively quiet trail that runs behind the trees along The Avenue.

An icy walk on the Common – first published 14 January 2014

January 2014 and I was trying to find little things to make me smile each day. It wasn’t easy. Most of the time I felt as if I was teetering on the brink of a black pit of depression after losing my job. Walking featured large in the things to make me smile stakes. A surreal experience and an interview – First published 5 December 2013

Red sky in the morning, shepherds warning, or so they say, and the morning sky on 5 December 2013 certainly had more than a hint or red about it. As I ate my granola I watched it change from hint of pink to deep rose with a touch of purple in the clouds. The wether news was not good, storms and high winds were on the way and maybe a flood or two. Not quite what I’d hoped for on the day of my interview but those are the breaks I guess. Daffodils, graves and geese

The sun was shining and it felt as if Spring was in the air so I thought a walk along the river was in order. The bank leading to the park was a mass of bright daffodils dancing in the gentle breeze. It felt like a great welcome to the river side. The tide was very low. White swans stood on the exposed mud and black swans swam in the shallow water. Ten miles and three bridges – first published 4 March 2013

March 2013 and spring was in the air. This was short walk week on the Moonwalk training although, at this stage, the short walk was ten miles. Commando had gone out to run his usual Sunday two bridge challenge so I thought I’d go one better and try three bridges. Planning the route turned out to be more difficult than the walk and I messed around with maps so long I ended up starting later than planned. It wasn’t long before I ran into trouble…
