Fairies

One of the upsides to the lockdown, at least at first, was that people had time on their hands. For some, this might have been considered a downside but many people were using the time to be creative. Social media was full of people making things, baking bread, sewing, knitting, creating art. In some ways it felt like a reminder of gentler, less frantic days. Apparently, there were also fairy doors springing up along the butterfly walk. It was 15 April, the day before the lockdown restrictions were due to be reviewed, and, still glowing with the success of my two bridge walk, I decided to risk a look.

The magic of Winnal Moors

Of course I couldn’t stand in the park gasping at the wonderful views across Winchester forever. Eventually I dragged myself away, walked back down Blue Ball Hill, which was certainly the easiest direction to tackle it from, and headed somewhere far more familiar. It was now around twenty past nine and Commando wouldn’t be back at the car park until just before eleven, so I had more than enough time for a stroll around Winnal Moors. The primary reason I started doing long walks was to lose weight and I did lose a lot, more than four and a half stone. Unfortunately being at home for three months in 2014 along with Christmas meant I’d put on mumble, mumble, mumble despite masses of walking when I was unemployed. This just went to show walking alone is not the magic cure for weight loss. Today, with blue sky overhead for a change, CJ and I decided to see if the flood that gave Commando such problems getting home from work last week had caused any lasting damage. There was also a cutway I’d spotted on the map that looked as if it could do with some exploration and might provide an alternative route home.
