Not a day to be working on the roof
Not a day to be working on the roof

Almost half way through February 2013 and, just as I was looking forward to spring, new leaves and flowers, the winter proved it had a few more surprises tucked up its sleeve yet. A blizzard came out of nowhere and caught me out. There was a blizzard of a different kind the next day at work… Continue reading Blizzards, films and new season stirrings – first published 12 February 2013

A body part obsession – first published 9 February 2013

My original blog, the one that got hacked, was called Fat Girl Slim Blog. It began as a blog about me trying to lose weight and keep it off and somehow morphed into a blog about me walking and training for the Moonwalk with a bit about weight loss now and then. Since the blog was hacked and I started this new blog I’ve been going through posts from the old blog and posting the less boring ones here. Mainly the weight loss stuff doesn’t make the cut. This post, from early February 2013 though is mostly about weight loss and our odd obsessions about our bodies. Continue reading A body part obsession – first published 9 February 2013

An odd day and an ongoing battle – first published 23 January 2013

image Since I was young I’ve kept diaries but, once they’re written I have rarely ever looked back at them. The demise of my old blog due to a hacking incident and the task of going through old posts to see what was worth salvaging has been an interesting exercise. It’s brought back vivid memories, made me laugh (often at my own stupidity) and occasionaly made me cry. The following post from the depths of winner 2013 did a little of all three and made me realise how much I loved and now miss my old job. growing old disgracefully – first published 14 January 2013

Bad weather in January 2013 scuppered all my plans to get outside. Although I needed to get cracking with the Moonwalk training I ended up spending most of my time in the kitchen cooking. Once that was done I was bored, which led to a lot of thinking. Continue reading growing old disgracefully – first published 14 January 2013

ice fog and a double dose of good news – first published 12 December 2012

The twelfth of December 2012 was supposed to be the day the world ended. Obviously it didn’t. After a terrible start with freezing fog for the walk to work things actually took a decided turn for the better. There were a few heart stopping moments along the way though and a Christmas tree mystery. Continue reading ice fog and a double dose of good news – first published 12 December 2012

Sometimes a day seems to be nothing but problems. This one, in December 2015 had more than its fair share and most of them came in the form of a certain entertainer. Add worrying about what to put on my Christmas list, the threat of snow and a hamper full of goodies I was desperately trying not to eat and you have a busy day. 17 November 2012

Yesterday I was housebound, waiting for the oven delivery. It was grey and foggy outside, as shown by a photo Commando Junior took from the Big Bridge, so being stuck inside was no great hardship. The oven finally arrived at half past eleven. The  delivery men probably thought I was a nutcase, I was so happy to see them. So I have a new oven. Granted it’s sitting in my gym right now but at least it’s in the house. The rest of the day was a mammoth cooking fest, leaving me free to have some fun in London today with the WLR girls. feet, shoulders and cake – first published 13 November 2012

Something that needed urgent attention if I was going to finish the 2013 Moonwalk was my feet. Twenty six point two mile walks take their toll not to mention the countless miles of training walks that come before. Feet are much neglected things. We stuff them in socks and shoes when we get dressed in the morning and then forget about them unless they cause us pain. Then again that could be just me. Anyhow, part of the Moonwalk master plan included a bit of foot pampering.

Cold weather eating urges – first published 7 november 2012

As someone who has always struggled with my weight winter is a testing time. The cold weather brings on cravings for stodgy comfort food while, at the same time, there is less opportunity for exercise. Let’s face it, we’d all like to snuggle up in front of the fire with a big box of chocolates or a bowl of sticky hot pudding and custard. Doing that for three months of the year would really pile on the pounds though so it’s something most of us fight. This post from the archives is all about why it happens and how I try to beat the cravings. Continue reading Cold weather eating urges – first published 7 november 2012

disappointments and good friends – first published 16 October 2012

20120925-203821

Some days it seems as if all that can go wrong does go wrong. You make all the right plans, do all the right things but, somehow, everything conspires against you. Those are the sort of frustrating days that can leave you feeling frazzled, cross and as if the whole world is against you. If you’re very lucky though, you will have friends who know just how to make you feel better. This post is about some of mine.
