This is the last part of the story of my Summer Sunday New Forest walk. Somehow I’d managed to end up at the campsite despite my efforts to avoid it and the heat and mugginess had me a bit concerned about Commando on his fifteen mile run. out of the heather and into the woods – first published 11 August 2013

My Summer Sunday walk had led me to the edge of Matley Woods and the campsite.  Rather than walking through the busy campsite I decided to take a path through the heather, not knowing where it would lead. The going got rather tough, dense gorse and a steep slope with very little sign of the path. Things did not look good and I thought I might have to turn back. On 11 August 2013, Commando decided to do his fifteen mile marathon training run in the New Forest and I went along for moral support and to have a little walk of my own. We set off earlyish. It was raining which was good news for Commando because he likes running in the rain, not so much for me. Still I had my bright pink Moonwalk hat and my windproof, waterproof coat and I figured at least it wouldn’t be muddy and flooded like my last New Forest walk. Hunting down Airport Rhino – first published 28 July 2013

Commando and I both set off at the same time this morning. He was off on a thirteen mile run and I was off to the Airport to look for a rhino, an eight mile journey there and back, give or take. He disappeared round the corner while I waited on the island in the middle of the main road to get across. Sometimes I wish I could run, these little jaunts would be so much faster. Still I’d probably miss loads of stuff if I did.  Continue reading Hunting down Airport Rhino – first published 28 July 2013

Back to locks and Olympic rings

With a quick look behind me to make sure I wasn’t being chased by royal guards wanting to chop my head off, I walked back past King Henry VIII’s Gate towards the street. Once I was sure my head was safe I slowed down and looked around me. The spectacular floral display on the corner was the first thing that caught my eye. On the way up I’d been so intent on the castle I hadn’t really noticed anything else. Now I could see Windsor had a lot more to offer. It was a pity I didn’t have more time to explore. Parkrun WAG

14 March 2015

My week off wasn’t all about walking, although there was certainly a fair bit of it. For one, the weather wasn’t brilliant every single day so I chose my walking days carefully and, in between times, got on with other things like cleaning, personal pampering and a little bit of gardening, mostly this involved moving things from cold cracked pots into new ones. When Saturday morning came around and I didn’t have to get up at the crack of dawn to go to work I decided to become a Parkrun WAG. After all, it isn’t often I get the chance. Ponies, ponies everywhere and a bit of running

On Sunday, Commando had a fifteen mile run scheduled on his London Marathon training plan. When he said he fancied running in the New Forest I was putting on my boots before he’d even finished speaking. In my head I had visions of beautiful blue sky over purple heather on White Moor and maybe a pony or two in the distance. The actual walk couldn’t have been further from this if it had tried.
