Not a day to be working on the roof
Not a day to be working on the roof

Almost half way through February 2013 and, just as I was looking forward to spring, new leaves and flowers, the winter proved it had a few more surprises tucked up its sleeve yet. A blizzard came out of nowhere and caught me out. There was a blizzard of a different kind the next day at work… Continue reading Blizzards, films and new season stirrings – first published 12 February 2013

A body part obsession – first published 9 February 2013

My original blog, the one that got hacked, was called Fat Girl Slim Blog. It began as a blog about me trying to lose weight and keep it off and somehow morphed into a blog about me walking and training for the Moonwalk with a bit about weight loss now and then. Since the blog was hacked and I started this new blog I’ve been going through posts from the old blog and posting the less boring ones here. Mainly the weight loss stuff doesn’t make the cut. This post, from early February 2013 though is mostly about weight loss and our odd obsessions about our bodies. Continue reading A body part obsession – first published 9 February 2013

Contrast, two sides to every story

20 to 23 May 2015

After such a busy weekend it was almost a relief to go to work for a bit of a rest. Almost… Let’s face it I’d have rather spent a little more time getting acquainted with my new mattress maybe followed up by a gentle stroll somewhere interesting. In the end I had to content myself with a rather less leisurely walk to work on Wednesday morning. At least it wasn’t raining. In fact the sun was out although it still felt as if frost was just around the corner and I hurried along to keep warm. Continue reading Contrast, two sides to every story

a wild swan chase?

14 April 2015

After the very short walk on Sunday and a day spent desperatly trying to tame my jungle of a garden, I thought it was about time I clocked up a few miles for my April  total. As it happened, I knew just where to go without too much thought at all. A little bird told me the swans had begun nesting and I knew just the place to see if there was anything to see. It would also mean a ten mile round trip to add nicely to my mileage. Continue reading a wild swan chase?

Orange, pink, blue, a splash of yellow and a dash of red and white

8 to 11 April 2015

My second week of early shift started with a breathtaking Wednesday sunrise over the River Itchen. Pinkening clouds on the horizon painted the gently rippled water where a pair of lonely swans dipped their heads searching for breakfast. I dawdled along the boardwalk drinking in the beauty of it all. Half way along the Suki II seemed to be floating on the dawn sky and the trees on the far bank were half hidden in early morning mist. Through it I could just make out my usual path beside the jetties and the line of little yachts. Continue reading Orange, pink, blue, a splash of yellow and a dash of red and white

Early starts, Easter eggs and Mr Bumble in the desert

image

1 to 4 April 2015

The first week of April was also the first week of my change to the early shift. It felt a little strange to be getting up at five fifteen on a Wednesday morning, rather than six thirty, more like my Saturday shift which has been an early start for a while now. Combined with the change of the clocks it threw me out all day. Continue reading Early starts, Easter eggs and Mr Bumble in the desert

growing old disgracefully – first published 14 January 2013

Bad weather in January 2013 scuppered all my plans to get outside. Although I needed to get cracking with the Moonwalk training I ended up spending most of my time in the kitchen cooking. Once that was done I was bored, which led to a lot of thinking. Continue reading growing old disgracefully – first published 14 January 2013

Memories of the early 1960’S – Alex’s wedding

Alex and Dad

In 1963 big changes were afoot. Alex was getting married! Being just three I don’t remember a great deal about what must have been excited preparations but I do have enduring memories of the day itself. Not all of them are good. Continue reading Memories of the early 1960’S – Alex’s wedding

An exciting week, sort of

25 to 28 March 2015

It was too sunny to go to work on Wednesday morning but, being a concentious sort of girl, I did anyway. There seem to be magnolias popping up everywhere and I spotted some lovely ones, still speckled with dew, in the gardens I passed on the river route. I love the excitement of spring, seeing new flowers every day. One side of the road has moorings and, as I passed each gate and fence I peeked through and over at the blue sky reflected in the river. It would be nice to have a mooring and a little boat. If I did I could sail to work. Continue reading An exciting week, sort of

ice fog and a double dose of good news – first published 12 December 2012

The twelfth of December 2012 was supposed to be the day the world ended. Obviously it didn’t. After a terrible start with freezing fog for the walk to work things actually took a decided turn for the better. There were a few heart stopping moments along the way though and a Christmas tree mystery. Continue reading ice fog and a double dose of good news – first published 12 December 2012
