After the rather lacklustre weather during my days off work it was slightly galling to wake to bright sunshine on Thursday morning when I had to go back to work. Why does that always happen? So there I was, half past six in the morning, walking under the Big Bridge the sky reflected in a mirror smooth river, wishing I could just keep on going. Friday’s severe weather warnings came to nothing but steady, all day rain. Mostly I stayed indoors, catching up on housework. On a dash to the bins I passed the new waterbut and could hear water trickling in. On the way to the shops in the afternoon, the trickling had stopped. Lifting the lid I saw water to the brim. On the edge of thunder

This week was all about humidity and on Wednesday morning that meant  hot and wet. A blanket of thick cloud was doing its best to drop rain but not quite succeeding as I walked through the gloom along the Boardwalk. Colour was provided by spiky purple knapweed and a second flowering of ragwort like a tatty bouquet. Near Horseshoe Bridge a patch of pink toadflax stood out amongst the purple. In the lazy water meadow

The river seemed green and lazy, meandering slowly through the meadow, green from the reflection of trees and grasses. It was the wild flowers that decided me in the end. Everywhere I looked there seemed to be flowers and the sound of buzzing bees was almost deafening. Lakeside and checking out the trail to Eastliegh could wait for another day.
