When the clocks went back in October 2012 it left me feeling tired and grumpy. A wet walk to work didn’t improve my mood but going through the parks and a friend with far worse weather problems to worry about soon had me counting my blessings. There is always someone worse off.
29 October 2012
The change of the clocks, the tail end of my cold and feeling grumpy abut my new oven not being delivered meant a restless night last night with another dream about getting lost. I’m a firm believer that dreams are our subconscious trying to tell us something and I keep having this dream in one form or another so I wish I could work out what it means. Answers on a postcard please. While I ate my breakfast my mood was lifted a little watching a tiny robin flitting about the garden trying to find some shelter from the drizzle under my palm tree. I did try to take a photo but it was too quick for me. I do enjoy looking out of the French windows while I eat my breakfast and at least it’s a little bit lighter in the morning now for a while. Of course this means it’s a lot darker in the evenings which is bad news for the walk home, but more of that later.
This morning the weather was distinctly damp but I did attempt the walk to work, sadly it was cut short by rain and, as I hate sitting in wet things all day especially as I still have a cold, I gave in and caught the bus. The bonus was I got to walk through the parks. I did spot a flower that wasn’t pink this morning too, a lone blue hydrangea flower amongst all the pink ones. I’m not sure how that happened but I stopped to take a photo anyway. I stopped again to try to catch two squirrels chasing each other up and down a tree on the edge of Hoglands Park but they’re so fast it’s hard to capture. My final stop was just after I crossed the road and noticed a dog rose clinging onto the last of its petals in a garden. Every day there seems to be something different to see I haven’t noticed before, it does make the journey interesting.

It might have been raining again but at least it wasn’t a tornado like the one heading towards America right now. My friend CA lives in Bermuda and she was battening down the hatches yesterday as the storm was headed their way. I do hope it passed by without incident. Bermuda sounds like such a paradise of a place to live but CA always seems to be having problems with tropical storms when all the electricity goes out, humidity which makes exercise difficult and shortages because everything comes from somewhere else by sea. I guess nowhere is perfect and we should count ourselves lucky the worst thing we have is a bit of snow and a lot of rain.
The highlight of my working day was having to make a difficult call to a fairly famous actress (not quite as famous as she thinks, I had to Google her to find out who she was) to explain that we wouldn’t pay for an extended stay in resort after her cruise is finished. She was less than pleased but once I got her talking about the work she was doing with a Buddhist monk and happened to mention that I’d met the Dalai Lama myself (I didn’t actually say it was with a few thousand other people and not a personal audience) and how interesting her venture sounded things took a turn for the better. I think it ended well and I have the feeling she won’t be staying on now she has to finance it herself. The other end of the scale was a lovely chat with one of the artists about a missing booking form. Why is it that the artists are all so accommodating and the musicians, actresses and actors seem to be difficult? No ego stroking needed with artists even though it would be easy to do as their work is so wonderful.

At least being busy meant I didn’t have time to eat all my snacks and I came home with half of them in my bag again. This afternoon I got a text from Commando telling me the pasta wasn’t very nice tonight which doesn’t give me a lot of confidence about dinner. Strange though as its just the other half of the pasta we had last week frozen. Maybe it’s the blasted oven again. Oh well, it’s all there is to eat so I guess I’m going to have to put up with it. I suppose I can finish off my snacks if it’s that bad.
The walk home was at least dry. It was also dark which meant I didn’t feel safe taking my usual short cut. The route is a little off the beaten track and not very well lit so I stuck to the roads, it did add a bit of time to the journey but it’s all more exercise. The full moon looked lovey as I crossed the Big Bridge, surrounded by cloud and reflected in the water. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of looking out over that water as I walk across the bridge and it’s almost certain to chase away any grumpiness.

What a wonderful picture to finish up with. I’ll bet it stayed in your mind for a long time.
It did, it was a wonderful night sky and I was lucky to get a half decent photo.
