Run aground on Bramble Bank

Southampton doesn’t often hit the world headlines but this week you can hardly turn on the news without hearing about it. The cause of all this hooha is a sandbank in the Solent called Bramble Bank, or, more correctly, a huge car transporter ship called the Hoegh Osaka that ran around on it on Saturday night. All in all it sounds like a very costly cock up on someone’s part and I thought I’d use my Tuesday walk to have a look. Continue reading Run aground on Bramble Bank

There is something about me and rain. At times it feels as if there’s a little black rain cloud sitting high in the sky waiting for me to step outside the door. Looking back on my old Fatgirlslimblog posts from 2012, I realise this isn’t something new. It can be all blue sky and sun when I leave the house but, within minutes, that blasted black cloud has appeared and started raining on me. Something else I noticed when I looked back was the huge difference between my job then and my job now, not just in what I did but in how I was allowed to manage my workload and the freedom I had to do things my own way. Salvador Dali, persistence of memory
Salvador Dali, persistence of memory

You may have worked out by now that I have a shockingly terrible memory. It’s something I wish I could change but I can’t so I’ve learned to live with it or work round it. Back in 2012 I saw a TV programme that got me thinking that having a poor memory might not be as bad as I’d thought. Thinking about this somehow got me thinking about happiness and what I could personally do to make the world a happier place. Blowing away the cobwebs

26 December 2014

Our Christmas Day was a quiet affair, lots of food and sitting around with the family. Much of it wearing the silly gold hats from our Christmas dinner crackers, well apart from Commando Junior who steadfastly refused to do something so juvenile. Originally I’d planned on going for a little walk but time ran away and I didn’t. Sitting around in front of the fire eating chocolates all day is surprisingly tiring. My first week at the new job ended just as the month came to a close. It looked like it was going to be a steep learning curve, not only on the work front. The office was in a part of town I didn’t know all that well and I spent my lunch breaks exploring, trying to work out the quickest routes to and from work. Sometimes things didn’t turn out as planned. Continue reading A long short cut leading to much wetness – First published 30 August 2012

Shortly after eight on Sunday morning Commando and I were in Mattie Matiz setting off for the Gosport Half Marathon. Unsurprisingly it was raining. It seems I’m going to have to learn to love walking in the rain or give up altogether. The first option is difficult, the second impossible. This was the third Gosport Half for Commando and the first one we haven’t got lost getting to. Before you say anything he has always been both driver and navigator. here comes the rain again

12 – 14 November 2014

There was no let up to the rain on Wednesday morning. My coat was still damp from the Tuesday walk, my gloves and hat still sopping wet. Luckily I have a selection of hats so I chose another but I don’t have a selection of gloves so I had to do without. If this rain keeps up I’m going to have to start a glove collection because my hands were freezing. Continue reading here comes the rain again

Soaking wet with a chance of sun

29 October – 1 November 2014

The beautiful weather of Monday was a happy fluke, laid on, it seemed, for the scattering of Commando Senior’s ashes. Not that I’d have had it any other way. Tuesday was dismal and my normal walk was cancelled due to the need to go to the Apple Shop to get my Fuelband replaced. On Monday evening the button suddenly stopped working and a bit of judicial Googling told me this was a common problem. Thankfully the wonderful Apple people replaced it without question. Hopefully it won’t happen again but it does mean I’m not entirely sure of my miles for Tuesday. Continue reading Soaking wet with a chance of sun
