August 2013 was coming to a close and, while Commando ran off into the drizzly rain for his second eighteen miles I spent a lazy morning messing about in the garden planting seeds. It had the makings of an idyllic and relaxed day but, as usual, things didn’t go as planned… Continue reading locked out – first published 25 August 2013

A pond walk and a demonstration of Murphy’s Law – First published 1 June 2013

June 2013 and two day weekends were revealing themselves to be problematic. In fact there were things I hadn’t even thought of, turning up to give me problems. Cooking and shopping ate into walking time and it all felt very frustrating. In the end, there was only one thing for it forget all the things I was supposed to be doing and go for a walk. Millers Pond seemed like a good plan and it turned out to hold some wonderful surprises. Continue reading A pond walk and a demonstration of Murphy’s Law – First published 1 June 2013

bank holiday bark chip and the Moonwalk outfit is unveiled – first published 5 May 2013

After months and months of training for the Moonwalk, aching muscles, blistered feet and more getting wet than I ever bargained for when I started out, it was almost upon me. There was just one more thing I had to do and it was something I’d been putting off for a long time. This was the weekend I had to decorate my bra. Sewing has never been my strong point and, although I’m quite creative, I couldn’t seem to come up with a plan to fit the theme of outer space. Why do they have to have themes anyway. If they didn’t I could have just stuck some plastic flowers on and had done with it. Even knowing it was now or never I still managed to procrastinate. Body butter and gadget troubles – first published 3 February 2013

Is it only me or does everyone else suffer with the ‘whatever can go wrong will go wrong’ syndrome when it comes to all things technical? It isn’t that I don’t like gadgets, I’m as fond of my iPod, IPad, Mac, Fuelband, iPhone and any number of other little doodads as the next girl. The problem is they just don’t seem to like me. Whenever I have to do something simple like back up or sync, it seems I hit all sorts of problems and a task I thought would take seconds ends up taking hours. The beginning of February 2013 was a prime example.  Give me the simple things like, walking, gardening and home made body butter any day. A walk free weekend

Cold grey skies
Cold grey skies

4 to 5 May

As if time has jerked backwards rather than forwards, the weather over the last week has seemed more like the first week of February than the first week of May, with grey skies, bitter winds and heavy rain. For the first time in as long as I can remember a weekend passed with no walking of any kind, unless you count around the garden or a trip or two up the Big Hill for supplies. The weather wasn’t kind for the Bank Holiday and, coupled with my birthday and wedding anniversary, I spent most of it being lazy. There was a trip out to the New Forest on Monday to test drive my new car but I didn’t even stop, never mind get out and walk. It was a very strange state of affairs indeed and will mean a lot of catching up if I’m to get anything like good miles under my belt in May. Continue reading A walk free weekend

A Lesson on the need for proper hydration – first published August 19, 2012

Looking back over the posts from my hacked blog, Fatgirlslimblog,
Has been an interesting exercise. Sometimes there have been difficult decisions over what to keep and what to delete. This post from August 2012 very nearly ended up in the delete file. The reason I decided to keep it was partly because of the important lesson it taught me and partly because there have been a few rather downbeat posts of late so I thought it was time to inject a little humour.
