A walk in the park, Andrews Park

Seeing the wisteria in bloom on my Saturday walk to work made me think of the wisteria arch in Andrews Park and there and then I decided to visit it on my Sunday walk. Back when I worked in the centre of Southampton and had an hour for lunch every day I used to walk in the parks all the time. These days I don’t get as many chances to watch the seasons change in them and I miss that. Continue reading A walk in the park, Andrews Park

Stormy weather

6 to 9 May 2015

The wet, stormy weekend gave way to a wet, stormy week. There were gale warnings on Tuesday night, despite this we had a visit from a canvasser for the councillor who lives at the top of the road asking if we’d be voting for him in the election.
“No,” I said.
“Is there any reason?” he asked.
“I’ve never voted for his party,” I said. “Maybe if he stopped parking his cars right on the corner so no one can see to get out of the crescent I might feel differently.”
“I’ll tell him that,” the bemused looking man said.
We shall see but I still won’t be voting for him or his party anyway. In fact I’d already placed my postal vote so he was a little late to be trying to change my mind. Continue reading Stormy weather

Cold grey skies
Cold grey skies

4 to 5 May

As if time has jerked backwards rather than forwards, the weather over the last week has seemed more like the first week of February than the first week of May, with grey skies, bitter winds and heavy rain. For the first time in as long as I can remember a weekend passed with no walking of any kind, unless you count around the garden or a trip or two up the Big Hill for supplies. The weather wasn’t kind for the Bank Holiday and, coupled with my birthday and wedding anniversary, I spent most of it being lazy. There was a trip out to the New Forest on Monday to test drive my new car but I didn’t even stop, never mind get out and walk. It was a very strange state of affairs indeed and will mean a lot of catching up if I’m to get anything like good miles under my belt in May. Continue reading A walk free weekend

Birthday surprises

2 May 2015

The day after my wedding anniversary is my birthday, which means I can’t forget the former, at least in theory. Not wishing to work on my birthday I’d booked the day off so there was no waking up at the crack of dawn and walking along the river. Given the cold, drizzly weather this was probably a good thing. A cold wet walk is never a good start to a birthday in my opinion.  Continue reading Birthday surprises

Training, manager escalations and a wedding anniversary

29 April to 1 May 2015

The working week started off gloomy. It seemed our hoping for cooler weather for the marathon had proved the old adage to be careful what you wish for. The Wednesday walk to work was drizzly and grim, brightened only by the sight of the black swans as I approached the boardwalk. After the beautiful warm, sunny weather of the week before it felt as if winter had returned.  Continue reading Training, manager escalations and a wedding anniversary
