walking in the dark and marvelling at the bright lights – first published 11 May 2013

The waiting was finally over. The Moonwalk I’d trained so hard for had begun and I was off into the dark, Wind and rain in Battersea amid a sea of wet bra wearing women. We were women on a mission, not just to walk twenty six point two miles, fight tiredness, cold and the elements, but to raise money for breast cancer charities, it was going to be a long, long night and, as usual, I was walking alone even though I was surrounded by people. All the fun of the big pink tent – first published 11 May 2013

Moonwalk day had finally arrived and, for the second time in a week, I was off to London. This time it was in the car with Commando. We had a hotel booked in Putney but only one of us would be spending the night there and there was the small matter of actually getting to it. Driving in London is not as simple as you’d think… Continue reading All the fun of the big pink tent – first published 11 May 2013

The Monwalk I’d been planning and training for for so long was just hours away and my nerves were beginning to kick in. Mostly, they were about the journey, the details. Then there were all the final preparations… Continue reading As ready as I’ll every be – first published 10 May 2013

a London adventure, auditions and a gift – first published 9 May 2013

Arabella and I would be meeting up at a studio in Marylebone to audition some musicians for the ship. Obviously I know nothing about classical music but Arabella thought I would be able to get an idea about the musicians themselves. It was heartening that she trusted my judgement. After months and months of training for the Moonwalk, aching muscles, blistered feet and more getting wet than I ever bargained for when I started out, it was almost upon me. There was just one more thing I had to do and it was something I’d been putting off for a long time. This was the weekend I had to decorate my bra. Sewing has never been my strong point and, although I’m quite creative, I couldn’t seem to come up with a plan to fit the theme of outer space. Why do they have to have themes anyway. If they didn’t I could have just stuck some plastic flowers on and had done with it. Even knowing it was now or never I still managed to procrastinate. Celebration time! – first published 1 and 2 May 2013

In our house May begins with celebrations and the first of those is on the first day of the month. May Day was the day Commando and I got married, although work meant we wouldn’t be spending much time together on our anniversary. Then, the very next day was my birthday, and time for more chocolatey celebrations. Continue reading Celebration time! – first published 1 and 2 May 2013
